Grand Meadow Park

I relocated to my neighborhood right in the midst of the 2020 pandemic. Soon after, I crossed paths with a passionate group of individuals who were in the process of adopting a nearby park. Keen to contribute, I began my journey by volunteering my time, offering assistance whenever I could. My involvement started with participating in workdays, and over time, I transitioned to organizing events and providing design and social media support.

Designing a logo
As a park adoption group spanning several neighborhoods, we have a strong commitment to engaging with our community. To ensure we capture the essence of our collective identity, we brainstormed multiple logo concepts and invited the community to participate in the decision-making process.

In Grand Meadow Park, a significant area comes alive with a vibrant display of wildflowers during specific seasons. Every fall, the landscape is adorned with goldenrod, inspiring us to incorporate this goldenrod motif into our park logo.

As we progressed through the park design process, we made the deliberate choice to refine our logo to ensure its versatility across various park materials. Our commitment to the goldenrod theme remained unchanged; however, we adjusted its design to enhance legibility when scaled down to a smaller size.

Event Posters
I initiated the creation of fliers and event posters aimed at promoting park gatherings, with the goal of not only sharing the events but also attracting more individuals to join us in our park improvement efforts.
I also took on the task of designing and crafting various physical park signage and materials. This encompassed the development of a banner for markets and events, yard signs for park members' properties, an earth day coloring page, a custom-designed t-shirt, stickers, and an a-frame sign commemorating the grand opening of our recently established children's nature play area.
Face Painting
I also did face painting during park events, and since our gatherings predominantly revolve around nature, our artistic focus leaned heavily towards plants and animals.
Our group, Friends of Grand Meadow Park, applied for and was awarded a design grant from
Austin Parks Foundation (APF)! We have been working with APF and the Austin Parks and Recreation Department to design our future park, community garden, and food forest.
